There is only two days left on the departure of OSTAR 2017, the terrible transatlantic regatta coming to Plymouth (UK) on May 29th.
The Ostar is the oldest and legendary regatta for solitary navigators and takes place every 4 years on the route from Plymouth to Newport R.I. (USA), 2,850 miles. It is considered the toughest of the oceanic regattas in solitary because of wind, sea, current and polar temperatures around 5 ° both air and water and high latitudes (up to 59 ° north parallel).
The latest edition took place in 2013 and saw Andrea Mura the winner, having first cut the finish line in the US after about 20 days of sailing. He swore that he would never do it again for the hellish weather conditions, having been able to bring the “skin” back home and the boat was intact after having suffered five terrible and frozen burrs.
The case wants the oath to be taken away not only for the reclamation of the sea (and of the Queen’s Club of the Queen of England, will be the Defender of this edition) but also because – having the ambition to change the boat with a more modern to Being able to take part in the racing world (Vendèe Globe 2020) – must necessarily continue to showcase sponsorships. A reality and a need to permanently make accounts for those who like Andrea have a lot of sports ambitions and always strive to achieve goals even if in difficult conditions both economically and humanly.
“There are many modifications, innovations made to the boat, people and companies involved throughout the technical preparation,” explains Andrea. “All new prototype sails with a technology of the Molentargius Veleria Andrea Mura Very high level using a new Dynema fiber. VDS sails are the first in the world made with the “sk99 low crimp” yarn. Even lighter and more powerful than previously made in Kevlar and Carbon. A real step forward. “
It was then made (another great improvement) a super steel coat and strataglass against the stormy storms of the Ostar.
Lamborghini rectified the helmets with a new wing profile. The new AD Stefano Domenicali has married the VDS project and the Team is confident that it is only the beginning of an important collaboration.
To withstand the rigid racing temperatures, Eberspaecher has provided a small but powerful and efficient “Airtronic” heater.
And so many other Andrea’s technical partners in this OSTAR 2017 will run, as we know, without a “commercial” sponsor: Raymarine for onboard instrumentation (Andrea is testimonial for the company), Osculati, Veneziani with its special paints, Grendi Group for logistic support, Bamar for winders, Exit Carbon for the new carbon footbridge, Navionics for cartography, Efoy …
